Design ideas for making your home modern, sustainable, and eco-friendly...

A new trend in design is to use eco friendly materials when selecting surfaces for your home. This doesn't have to mean only using bamboo flooring and low voc paints, why not take the green trend to your countertops? Using recycled glass countertops is not only a great way to be green but can add a beautiful and interesting new material to your home. Whether you're looking for a surface that's eclectic and one of a kind or a more sleek and refined surface it can all be found in recycled glass.

A few Recycled glass options:

Icestone is a an option when it comes to recycled glass countertop materials. Icestone combines recycled glass and concrete to create a marble-like material that is as durable as it is attractive.

Livinglass offers a recycled glass product that looks more like art work than recycled glass. Similarly to 3-Form EcoResin, Livinglass combines recycled glass and resin with layers of materials that are recycled, recyclable or renewable. Everything from leaves, to bamboo, to sand dollars can be integrated into pieces of glass that can define your space beautifully and make quite the statement. Visible pieces of glass give the surface interest and movement.

Bio-glass slabs are a great new product that, depending on the color, are made from either pre-consumer recycled glass, post-consumer glass bottles, or a combination of the two. Bio-glass has a semi-translucent look to it allowing light to transmit through the glass giving it the look of tumbled sea glass. Bio-glass also boasts a scratch resistant surface making it not only beautiful but functional as well.
